Terminator, The DVD

First thing you'll notice about this dvd is that they did a great job in restoring the movie. I was amazed at how crisp and vivid the picture was the first time I saw it. After watching my old EP VHS version (which is the only version they made) The Terminator on dvd looks like an entirely different movie. The only drawback of the new dvd is when they remixed the new 5.1 sound, they changed all the sound effects. You'll notice the guns don't sound quite as explosive, and some of the sound effects are a little overdone and/or too loud.

    • TV Spot "Different Times"
    • TV Spot "Pursuit"

    • "The Terminator: A Retrospective": Consists mostly of James Cameron talking with Arnold about the film. They go over filming techniques, makeup effects, characters and casting the roles, and "the motivation of a robot" (18 min).
    • "Other Voices": Shows the full cast and crew talking about their experience making the movie. We're given a brief history of James Cameron and how he got the idea for The Terminator. Documentary touches on most points brought up in the first documentary, but goes into more depth. Interesting to discover that they used "guerilla filmmaking" tactics to film some of the shots they needed (1 hour).
  • Terminated Scenes: Has an introductory screen describing what each scene is about. Gives the option of watching each with or without the director's commentary.
