Gladiator (2000) DVD

Overview:

If you have a dvd player, and you like the movie Gladiator, then you absolutely must get this dvd. The 2 Disc set is loaded with goodies and is sure to keep you busy for quite a while after you've finished just watching the movie. If you have a DTS sound system get ready to be completely blown away. The sound is awe-inspiring. This one is a must buy.

Extras:

  • Commentary: Includes a commentary index to jump to a certain chapter in the commentary. Commentary is by director Ridley Scott, director of photography John Mathieson, and editor Pietro Scalia. Scott does most of the talking, and there is never a pause in the talking. Descriptions go from the main themes in the movie (Scott often talks about the "sub-text"), to the elements of the story, to the decriptions of the sets and the acting. Very detailed and quite interesting.
  • From the Cutting Room Floor: 11 deleted scenes with or without commentary by Ridley Scott and 1 collage of short deleted scenes mixed together with music. These scenes aren't just worthless scenes that obviously needed to be cut out of the movie. Gives you a good understanding of the full story of the movie, and the sub-plots.
  • The Making of Gladiator: Documentary on the making of the film with cast interviews and technical descriptions on how scenes were accomplished. Good overview of the movie. (25 minutes)
  • Gladiator Games: Roman blood sport: TLC documentary about the sport of being a gladiator in Rome and how it relates to games of today. Goes over the history of the sport and works in clips and descriptions of the movie. Great if you're interested in the history of the games. (50 minutes)
  • Hans Zimmer: Composing Gladiator: Documentary on how Zimmer created the musical score for the movie. Goes over the elements involved in writing music, and composing the themes for the movie. Very interesting piece, since the way in which music is created for films is often not talked about. (20 minutes)
  • My Gladiator Journal: Text Journal that includes pictures by Spencer Treat Clark- the young boy who plays Lucious in the movie. Tracks his days on the set and interacting with the cast outside of the set. Very long and quite interesting. Novel way of bringing the viewer behind the scenes.
  • Original Storyboards: Includes key sequences and deleted sequences. Also includes conceptual art.
  • Trailers and TV Spots: Includes theatrical teaser, a theatrical trailer, and tv spots(4).
  • Cast and Crew: Includes text descriptions of cast and crew.
  • Production Notes: Goes over several production notes and details in text form (short).
