Snow White: A Tale of Terror (1997)

JB

Now this is a Snow White picture I can enjoy. No singing, no trills, no obnoxious dwarves, just pure good versus evil. Somewhat twisted story of Snow White, with Sigourney Weaver as the wicked bad nasty evil stepmother, and Sam Neill as Sam Neill with sillier hair. Weaver eats this role up, playing a wonderfully enjoyable sicko, possessed by her magic mirror to kill a lot of people, including her stepdaughter Lillian. Lillian runs away to the dark forest, where Dwarves (who aren't dwarves) try to keep her safe. Their leader (a horribly miscast Gil Bellows-- you know, the guy from Ally McBeal) does his best to appear gallant as his buddies are picked off by the wicked witch of the chest (as her sometimes revealing clothes attest to). Costumes are well-done, scenery is moody and tense, and Weaver's acting is a scream. Anyone for cider?
