| Run Lola
Run (1998) |
 |
Lola... running. |
Shawn
If just a few
little details about the beginning of your day were different, would
the following events in that day become completely different? And
does that sentence make any sense at all? I hope so, because that's
the basic premise to this movie. Lola picks up a phone call from
her boyfriend, and he explains that he's really screwed up a "business"
deal, and he needs $100,000 by noon. Lola runs to his rescue, and
tries to come up with $100,000 on her way. Eventually at noon something
goes wrong, and the same scenario keeps repeating, with just a few
minor changes affecting the entire outcome of each scenario. It's
kind of like Groundhog Day. This one is characterized by
a furious pace that almost makes you hyperventilate, and the style
that the movie is shot in adds to the speedy pace. Keep a paper
bag close by just in case, and it's German, so prepare for subtitles.
