Rear Window (1954)

Jimmy peeping I think I have camera lens envy...

Shawn

Classic Hitchcock thriller that is my favorite of his movies (from the ones I've seen). Out of the three most well known movies (Psycho, Rear Window, and Vertigo) this one is most enjoyable. In this one Jimmy Stewart is confined to a wheel chair because of a broken leg, and the only thing he can do to fill his time is to become a Peeping Tom, looking out his window across the courtyard at his neighbors. His girlfriend Grace Kelly stops by occasionally to cheer him up, and to amaze us with her elegant beauty. While peeping, Jimmy happens to stumble upon a possible murder committed by one of his neighbors, then the plot thickens. This movie is amazingly compelling considering the entire movie takes place in one apartment. Hitchcock keeps the filming style simple, giving the characters and story the emphasis which works well for the confined setting. If someone you know raves about Vertigo, telling you how good it is, and that you should see it, don't. See this one instead.
