Pitch Black (2000)

Radha peering in for a closer look "Hmmm... What's down this dark hole filled with blood? I think I'll crawl in and see..."

Shawn

Um. First of all, I should say that I'm a sucker for sci-fi. That said, I enjoyed Pitch Black. It didn't have a terribly intelligent story-- A group of people crash land on a deserted planet because, well, just because, and discover that a swarm of nasty little creatures are about to devour them all if they don't get off the planet before a solar eclipse occurs, since the creatures only come out during the pitch black. Why? Well, just because. O.k. the story's not terribly intelligent, but hey, the movie's got some cool special effects. And being a horror/sci-fi it had a collection of tense moments to keep me entertained.

Shawn (second opinion)

Now why did I only give this 2 ½ stars? Hmmm... I think it was the fact that I wasn't terribly impressed by the story. It has a high "convenience" factor that made it seem stupid the first time I saw it, but now looking back (after I've seen it about 4 times) apparently that didn't bother me enough. The one thing that keeps me coming back to this movie (like many others) is the coolness factor. The movie is loud, extremely flashy, and has good thrills attached. After several viewings the lead actress gets painful to watch (acting wise), but other than that, this movie deserves a second look, and a better recommendation, so, here it is.
