"Daddy, you have to realize
I'm not a little girl anymore. Look!" |
Shawn
Stallone in
a comedy? How does that work? Actually it works pretty well. Adapted
from a play, this one's based mostly around melodramatic dialogue
making it a little corny, but the over-dramatic style actually works
well. It gets better as the movie goes along too. Based in the 1930's,
the movie begins when "Snaps" Provolone's father, as his dying wish,
asks Snaps (Stallone) to get out of the gangster business. A month
later, while trying to go "straight," Snaps is paid a visit by his
soon-to-be-son-in-law, asking Snaps for his blessing to marry his
daughter. That's where the chaos begins. The movie has great energy
throughout, and quirky characters, making it a fun time. Watch for
Tim Curry as a hysterical eloquence teacher. "You've got a dangling
participle!"
