One Hour Photo (2002)

Poor Sy, sitting in silent solitude.

Shawn

What do you expect when you drop off your photos to be developed? The guy behind the counter has the opportunity to look at your private moments. Do you think he's going to look? Are there photos you're taking that you don't want anyone else to see? Sy "The Photo Guy" looks through people's photos he develops. He notices things about these people. These photos people take are a glimpse at their lives; they look so happy. Sy wants to become part of these happy lives. He wants to know more. He becomes obsessed with one family's life and gets too close.
One Hour Photo is filmed with a slow, methodical pace that really lets the actors of the movie act. There are a countless number of long shots focused into the faces of the actors, exposing their deep emotions. And with great acting from all, especially Robin Williams, the movie captured my attention and took me for an eye-opening journey into the mind of Sy and his photo philosophy. Really a refreshing new twist on the "psycho out to get you" movie.
