| Nurse Betty
(2000) |
 |
Betty delivering the no-look coffee
pour. Nice!. |
Shawn
After the traumatic
event of watching two hit-men do away with Betty's husband while
she is watching her favorite television soap-opera, she is somehow
transformed into a character from the soap. She is transformed from
Betty, the boring coffee shop waitress, to Nurse Betty, pursuing
her ex-fiancé David (Greg Kinnear)-- straight from the soap opera
storyline. The problem with this is that while she thinks this imaginary
life of hers is real, everyone else knows that it is a soap opera.
She then makes the trip from Kansas to California to re-unite with
her lost love. Great performances by all the actors, and quirky
likeable characters really make this movie enjoyable. Zellweger
is super-cute as the soap-opera crazy. Freeman as the smart, sensitive,
and caring hit-man contrasted to the overly-violent Chris Rock make
for great comedic situations. The real treat of this movie is the
characters. Unpredictable, funny, complex, this movie's great.
