| Hard Eight
(1996) |
 |
Philip Seymour Hoffman makes a
cameo as "Craps Sleazeball." |
Shawn
Anderson certainly
knows how to craft movies. In particular, there's always an air
of mystery about his movies, and Hard Eight doesn't disappoint
in this regard. The movie starts out with an old-time gambler (Hall)
picking up a down on his luck Reilly at a diner, offering to help
him out. He shows him the ropes of gambling, and two years later
they're still together, apparently making a good living. At each
turn one never knows what the full story is, and what is going to
happen next. But as the story unfolds, the mystery also unfolds,
and presents a heck of a good movie.
