Hannibal (2001)

Creepy Hannibal, made even more creepy with the use of lighting.

Shawn

It seems that Ridley Scott has come out of hiding. After the success of Gladiator he takes on this character piece, and does very well. This is a very competent sequel to Silence of the Lambs. It leaves off where the previous one ended. Hannibal is free and Clarice Starling (this time played by Julianne Moore) is assigned to the case to track him down. This one lacks the mystery and level of psychological depth of the first, but it still provides plenty of suspense and compelling situations. Scott doesn't let us use our imagination of how brutal Hannibal can get-- he shows everything to us, making the movie quite gory. Once you see everything up to the final scene where Hannibal has fun "expanding the mind" of his last victim, you'll see what I mean. Don't be surprised if you don't feel like eating anything afterwards.
