| Godfather
Part II, The (1974) |
 |
Vito Corleone arrives in New York. |
Shawn
Once again we
join the Corleone family for about three hours. This time the story
spans over two generations, following a great juxtaposition between
the early rise of the Vito Corleone family and the breaking apart
of it 40+ years later at the hands of his son, Michael Corleone.
Part II dives deeper into the emotional ties of the Corleone
family, and what it's like to be part of the mob. After all the
deceit, the revenge, and the killings, the power doesn't count for
anything when it's accompanied by such emptiness. The "business"
can kill you in more than one way. The closing scene at the end
of the movie shows just how dramatically things and people can change
over time and is extremely poignant.
