Don Juan DeMarco (1995)

Shawn: (Projecting sexy Spanish Accent) "My name is Shawn DeMarco. I am the greatest reviewer ever. I have reviewed over a thousand movies. My words reach the hearts of my readers, and they are overwhelmed by good taste." O.k. Returning to reality, Don Juan DeMarco is about a man who believes he is the great lover Don Juan. After a failed seduction he believes he can no longer go on living, and attempts suicide. That's when he is committed and meets up with a psychiatrist, Brando. The hospital then proceeds to try to "cure" him of his romantic ways, all while his romantic ways are rubbing off on those around him. Great performance by Depp, and Brando is surprisingly funny when his romantic heart for his wife is awakened. It's nice to know that not all Romantic Comedies have to be like You've Got Mail, and/or star Meg Ryan.

JB: And I had to live with that.

Shawn: Are you still sore since all the women flocked to me instead of you?

JB: Once again, returning to reality... Leven sets up a great film and Coppola provides him the cash to get a great cast. Depp proves his masterful abilities as a character actor, and Brando and Dunaway follow promptly in his footsteps. The writing is witty and bright, the characters are real enough to have them living next door, and consistent pacing, well-designed sets and costumes, and hey, Johnny Depp's sweet Spanish accent, don't let you do anything else. Except maybe make out. Ooh, can I say make out on this page?

Shawn: Uh… yeah.

JB: Good. Forget Sleepless in Seattle, this is the romantic triumph of the 90's. -1 star for the theme song by Bryan Adams.

Shawn: Ugh.... Bryan Adams.
