| Crossing
Guard, The (1995) |
JB
Penn wrote and
directed this story of Gale (Nicholson) and his wife (Huston) whose
daughter is killed by drunk driver Booth (Morse). Gale waits for
6 years until Booth is out of prison and proceeds to hunt him down.
Story revolves around how the two men deal with the accident and
subsequent dealings with each other, Nicholson with anger, Morse
with regret. Morse shines as Booth, whose perspective on what he
did is both heart-wrenching and completely human. Nicholson plays
his character well, but the movie often becomes too entrenched in
unnecessary side stories and Nicholson's decline into seediness.
Look for other strong performances by Huston and Wright-Penn. Look
for no performances by Alicia Silverstone.
