Cliffhanger (1993)

Slipping.... You'd think with arms like those... he'd be able to hold onto her indefinitely.

JB: Part 3 of Stallone movies you hate to love (behind Rocky and Cobra). Filmed completely in the Alps of Italy, Harlin fills this film with beautiful cinematography to add to a well-directed and suspenseful film. And more action than you can shake a Yeti at. Lithgow plays the money hungry murderer who, since he's against Stallone and Janine Turner (ugh), you root for. Skip the first bit where girl falls and Rooker goes nutso about it (I'd like to see HIM try it). Stallone finally writes a movie I can't sleep through. Most notable for being the only film both Shawn and I sat through, with different people no less, with no one else in the theater.

Shawn: One fact that will never change: I hate Renny Harlin movies. He makes his characters and stories so irrational, stupid, and annoying it's hard to stand them at all. Cliffhanger has enough suspenseful action and cool imagery though to save this movie from completely sucking. Movie will grow on you the more you see it because you'll get used to the pure stupid nature of it all.
